Lavon is a growing community of almost 14,000 residents on the eastern edge of the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. As a fast growing community, Lavon has land to grow and opportunities to attract major employers. To date the largest private employer within the Lavon area is Cohn-Gregory Company being a company that supplies pipes, valves and fitting supplies, hardware and handtools. Cohn-Gregory employs about 20. Other small retail businesses are now opportunities for work places.
The Community Independent School District (CISD) is the largest area public employer with 798 employees. CISD serves Lavon, Nevada, Josephine and Copeville. The NeSmith Elementary School and Dodson Elementary School are in Lavon. Community Trails Middle School is in Lavon.
To the south of Lavon, along SH 205, are employers and industrial companies including Eagle Transmission, Hardcastle Self Storage, Camp Diggy Bones, Republic Stone, Gracy Cabinets, Lattimore Concrete, Lavon Tire, Bee Line Ready Mix, and Bee Line RV Storage.
